The Oklahoma City Boathouse
Foundation is a community foundation chartered to oversee the management
and operation of the Chesapeake Boathouse. Our mission is to operate the
Chesapeake Boathouse in such a way as to improve the quality of life for
the citizens of Oklahoma City, attract community involvement in the boathouse,
and promote the use and development of the Oklahoma River – all while
lessening the burden on city government to provide public amenities. The
Foundation's efforts include…
- Encouraging public participation in community events
along the Oklahoma River
- Conducting local, regional and national rowing events
- Ensuring public access to the river and docks
- Providing rowing shell storage for nonprofit rowing
clubs and universities
- Offering the community a public meeting space
- Creating community education programs, including
programs for at-risk youth
- Providing the community with instruction and information
on rowing
Oklahoma City Boathouse Foundation officers include
Aubrey McClendon, president; Clayton I. Bennett, secretary; and Michael
Knopp, executive director. Board members include Ray Ackerman, Denise
